In 1976 the School of Midwifery and the School of Nursing, Yola, were merged together to become the School of Midwifery and Nursing, Yola, under the then-Gongola state government.

With the creation of Adamawa State from the then-Gongola State government, the school was demerged, and two schools of nursing existed until the state government of Adamawa State took over completely. In 2001 the Anambra State governor, in the person of Boni Haruna, signed a law that brought the creation of the Anambra State College of Nursing and Midwifery.

For basic nursing, basic midwifery, return basic midwifery, and post-basic nursing

• Five (5) credit passes in NECO/WAEC/NABTEB.

• The credits must include English language, mathematics, biology, chemistry, and physics.

For Return Basic Midwifery and Post-Basic Nursing:

• Candidates must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).

For Community Midwifery:

• Minimum of four (4) credit passes.

• Credits must include English Language, Biology, and any other two relevant subjects.

• The Community Midwifery Program is for Indigenous people only. Non-indigenes should not apply.
