Abdu Gusau Polytechnic is a state-owned polytechnic that is located in Talata Mafara, Zamfara State.

The story of Abdu Gusau Polytechnic began in 1956 when it was established as a staff training center in Sokoto and was renamed to staff development center in 1972 by the Sokoto State Government.

In 1980 the staff development center was merged with the community development institute Birnin Kebbi and the home economics center to form the new polytechnic of Sokoto State, Birnin Kebbi.

In 1991 a new state was created out of Sokoto State, which is today called Kebbi State. The former military ruler of Sokoto State as then had it in mind to establish a polytechnic in Talata Mafara to take advantage of the existing structure, which is meant for the technical college that is already situated there.

In 1992 the polytechnic was established in Sokoto State under the administration of Governor Mallam Yahaya Abdulkarim, who signed the bill that brought the polytechnic into existence. In 1994 the polytechnic was renamed to the current name it bears in order to honor the first engineer from old Sokoto State.

In 1996 Zamfara State was created out of Sokoto, and thus the polytechnic owner a hop was handed over to Zamfara State, but the institution site remained in Sokoto State until 1997, when the portal was moved to its current locale.
