University of Port Harcourt commonly called UNIPORT is a public research multi campus University that is located in Choba and Aluu,Rivers state.
University of Port Harcourt was Established in 1975 by the federal Government of Nigeria as a University college in order to expand acess to higher Education and also meet the demand the growing demand for manpower in the delta region and Nigeria as whole.
Established as University College in 1975 the University was unable to award degree until 1977 which is two years after the University attained a University status and since then has been one of forerunner of Nigeria Higher learning institution most especially in the area of research.
As at the early stage of the University the institution operated on a few initial facutlities but in recent years the University boost of 2 colleges,18 faculties,16 institute and 4 schools which these form a operate base for all courses offered in the institution.
