Adekunle Ajasin Akungba Akoko University (AAUA) is a state-owned public university that is located in Akungba Akoko, Ondo State. The university was established in the year 1999.
Adekunle Ajasin Akungba Akoko University ( AAUA) has a long history that can be traced back to 1982 when the University was established then by the Civilian Governor Of Ondo State Governor Michael Adekunle Ajasin and it was named Obafemi Awolowi University but this was changed to Ondo State University in 1985 by Military Governor.
In 1996 there was a change in the direction of the university as a new state, which is the current Ekiti State, was formed out of Ondo State, with the university still located in Ekiti State, and this is not in accordance with the university property law; relocation has to be made, and this was done in 1999 as workers moved from the old site of Ado-Ekiti to Akungba Akoko.
In 2004, the university was changed from Ondo State University to Adekunle Ajasin Akungba Akoko University in order to immortalize and honor the governor that made the establishment of the university possible.
When the university establishment can be traced to 1982, the institution makes use of 1999 as its establishment date, as in accordance with the year of relocation to Ondo State.
The institution boasts over 20,000 students studying in the institution across different faculties and departments; it has, in years past, won the award for the best state university and, in recent years, has managed to secure accreditation for courses like nursing and other popular courses.
